Stars of Dar Taliba : In tribute to Dr. Carolina Ödman Govender. (Version française)

Following the activities of the Marrakech
Astronomy Festival, our wish was to pay
tribute to the late Carolina Ödman Govender.
Carolina, who has just left us, played an
important role in educating and promoting
girls in science. She contributed to the creation
of the Astronomy for Africa working group
and led the program: Universe Awareness (UNAWE), an awareness program aimed at
inspiring children to learn astronomy. The
accomplishments of the deceased have been
impressive and multiple, in the fields of
science, medicine, technology, arts and
STIM1, and have transformed the way
science is presented to an ever-increasing
audience that is more and more diverse.
This is how we wanted to organize this
activity to promote an astronomy that is more
inclusive while steering the orientation of girls
towards STIM1,Our aim is to prolong her
work hoping she continues to watch over us.
We are therefore planning a 2-day visit to
the Oukaimeden observatory in favor of
50girls from the Dar Taliba boarding school in
Marrakech. The Dar Taliba Marrakech
association is dedicated to promoting girls
education from rural areas, who tend to be
disadvantaged on the basis of their
geographical origin alone.
The event is scheduled for Saturday 21st
and Sunday 22nd, 2023 at Oukaimeden. This
activity will be led by the association 3AM
Astronomy and the Atlas Dark Sky
Foundation.
Our sponsors (CAF/Intrepid) have already
agreed the supply of transportation,
accommodation and catering for 50 girls and
their leaders. Additionally, we want to involve
the AfNWA
African organization under AfAS and dedicated to women in astronomy.
A conference debate around the experience of
this organization to promote female astronomy
will be programmed. It will be followed by a
debate on how to sustain this kind of activity,
taking advantage of the possibilities offered to
the Astro-clubs, the IAU, AfAS , OAD, OAO, to fund their projects.
The Atlas Dark Sky Foundation offers
the opportunity to raise awareness to light
pollution among those young girls and thus
involve them in tackling it within their
respective villages.
